I downloaded the deb (amd64) package and tried to installed it through "Software Install". That didn't worked so I tried the dpkg -i command instead. That threw the following error:

chmod: cannot access '/tmp/tuniqueinstance*': No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing package tmetricdesktop (--install):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

However, after installation it did open a prompt which asked me for my username and password. After I entered my credentials it showed me another popup asking me to continue tracking my time on the active item. I pressed OK, but than nothing...

When I tried to open the program again it started complaining about a /tmp/tuniqueinstance file. Pressing OK had no effect. After that I tried to reinstall it again. This time I encountered no errors, but still nothing happened when trying to open the program.

So unfortunately no desktop client on Ubuntu for me. If it's of use, I'm able to send some log files.

Which logs do you need and where can I find them?

We've identified the problem. It will be fixed in the next version.

Meanwhile, you can run the following command as a workaround.

sudo chmod 777 /tmp/tuniqueinstance*

That does indeed help to get rid of the intial errors. After the install I could also start tracking time, which I see back in the webapp. After this, there is no way to open the desktop app anymore however, so it is still unusable.

I'm not sure what do these words mean... Can't you run the app for the second time? Or, maybe, app is hidden and you cannot see its icon in the system tray.

Could you articulate the problem for us, please?

It means that when I try to open the app, nothing seems to happen. There's no icon in the system tray, but there's also no app window visible. I do see a tmetric process when running top, and occassionaly an empty yellow popup appears.

OK. We've got it and working on it now.

After the installation you need to:

  • kill TMetricDesktop process
  • delete file /tmp/tunique*
  • delete s~/.Devart folder

Then launch TMetric Desktop without su permissions.
